    Inspired by over 40 years of continuous effort by the Joint National Committee for Languages (JNCL), the objective of  Canadian Language Advocacy Day  (LAD) is to build an informal coalition of language rights advocates, individuals, and organizations who will participate in an informational, virtual advocacy day at Queen's Park on February 4th, 2021. Our Mission: We strive to map Indigenous lands in a way that changes, challenges, and improves the way people see the history of their countries and peoples. We hope to strengthen the spiritual bonds that people have with the land, its people, and its meaning. We strive to map Indigenous territories, treaties, and languages across the world in a way that goes beyond colonial ways of thinking in order to better represent how Indigenous people want to see themselves.  We provide educational resources to correct the way that people speak about colonialism and indigeneity, and to encourage territory awareness in everyday speech and action.  See the map /.

On 17 December 2016, the Donostia Protocol to Ensure Language Rights, finalised by a committee of organisations including the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO), was released and presented to the public at the Kursaal Palace in Donostia – San Sebastián, after a preparatory work of almost two years. More than 100 organizations representing approximately 26 languages signed it on that day, while many others have already agreed to do so. On  the  initiative  of  International  PEN,  a  World  Conference  on Linguistic  Rights  was  held  at  Barcelona,  Spain,  from  6  to  9  June1996.  It  brought  together  more  than  100  associations,  NGOs  and institutions  concerned  with  this  issue,  which,  at  the  close  of  their discussions, adopted a ‘Universal Declaration of Linguistic Rights’.The  signatories  have  communicated  the  text  of  this  Declaration  to the Director-General of UNESCO and requested him to examine it, with a view to its subsequent submission, in an appropriate form, to the  General  Assembly  of  the  United  Nations.  The  Director-General brings  this  request  and  the  Declaration ...
